GUEST PRESENTER: AGAPI STASSINOPOULOS |

If you want to be entertained while being
enlightened -- and find your inner god or goddess, too -- talk to Agapi
Stassinopoulos. This Greek-born writer, actress, and lifelong student of
mythology is the author of
Gods and Goddesses in Love, a recent Paraview Pocket Books
release. The book has gotten raves. Deepak Chopra said, “Stassinopoulos helps
men and women gain value as they claim the power of the archetypes in themselves
so they can enjoy deeper and more meaningful relationships." Eve Ensler, author
of The Vagina Monologues, said, "Agapi reaches into the depths of women
and draws out the juicy goddess in each of us." And Marianne Williamson, author
of Everyday Grace, had this to say: "Agapi Stassinopoulos brings the
Greek goddesses alive. She helps them speak from deep within the heart of the
universe, telling us what we need to know to be the women we want to be,
attracting the relationships we want to have."
You may also know Agapi from her many appearances on TV, from her one-woman
show, “Conversations with the Goddesses,” or
her website. This
month, Agapi guest-edits our monthly media guide and her recommendations are
truly transforming. |

I think that
Aphrodite: A Memoir of the Senses by Isabel Allende is the most
brilliant encounter with the senses and Aphrodite. Allende takes it to a whole
other level, and even explains how you can entertain like Aphrodite with recipes
and herbs and spices that are sacred to Aphrodite. It's beautifully illustrated,
too. It’s simply a feast of creativity.
Memories, Dreams, Reflections by C.G. Jung is a journey to the
unconscious, where Jung describes his experiences. It's such a treasure to have
something like this from one of the great masters of psychology.
Momentum: Letting Love Lead: Simple Practices for Spiritual Living
by John-Roger and Paul Kaye explains how we can let go of things we hold onto
and move into the heart consciousness of spirit. You can open it at any page and
it will uplift you.
I also recommend
Essential Rumi translated by Coleman Barks. Rumi is my favorite poet
in the whole world. He transcends this world and goes straight to the spirit.
His poetry is just incredible. |

I love
L'Essentiel by Alabina, which is a sort of Middle Eastern gypsy music.
It's so enlivening -- I often play it when I work and it gives me so much
energy. Anything by
Mozart is energizing, too! |

One of my favorite movies is
Dangerous Beauty, starring Catherine McCormack as the real-life 16th
century Venetian courtesan Veronica Franco. She has a passionate affair with a
senator played by the English actor Rufus Sewell. It's deeply romantic and
definitely worth watching.
I also love a recent adaptation of Jane Austen's
Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. It's
transporting and does a great job of portraying how women were confined back
then. Kate's character is a beautiful character, one who reminds me of
Persephone. She has to go down to the depths of the underworld and the film
shows how she gets through it and comes back up again.
I must also mention the classic film
Zorba the Greek, which I recently watched again. The characters remind
me of the Greek gods Dionysus (Zorba, played by Anthony Quinn) and Apollo (the
Englishman Basil, portrayed by Alan Bates) and how they approach life in very
different ways. It's a celebration of life and freedom and can be watched over
and over again. |

You can read all of the columns and thoughts of my sister Arianna Huffington on
her website. She has a blog, posts her schedule, and provides a forum for
discussion. I like hearing what she has to say about everything that's going on
in the world.

The spiritual teachings of John-Roger can be found at his website, too. He
provides information on knowing your light -- your soul -- and becoming aware of
your divine being. This knowledge will help you live a happy and productive
