PARAVIEW GUEST PRESENTER:
DARYL S. PAULSON | | |
|
Paraview author Daryl S. Paulson has written seven books,
including two published by Paraview:
Competitive Business, Caring Business: An Integral Business Perspective
for the 21st Century, a multidimensional approach to
management, and
Walking the Point, which relates his experience as a Marine
in the Vietnam War. In addition to being an author, Daryl is the CEO of
BioScience Laboratories, an internationally recognized laboratory
testing facility for topical antimicrobials, which he founded in 1991
with less than $2,000.
During his service in the United States Marines Corps, Paulson was
awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with the Combat V for Valor, the
Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Combat Action Award. He is
married and makes his home in Montana.

DARYL’S TRANSFORMING MEDIA PICKS
| |
I’m an avid reader. I enjoy world history, philosophy, psychology, and
literary criticism in particular. My favorite books, however, seem to
center around the works of
Ken Wilber, an integral philosopher—I’ve incorporated his views
on business management into my work with BioScience, and used his ideas
as a springboard to lift the company from a practical business to one
that is caring and holistic. Currently, I’m rereading
Boomeritis, Wilber’s first novel, about a young person in
search of life’s meaning beyond eating well, playing well, and making
money. |

I like anything to do with the movie series
The Matrix, but I confess that
Vin Diesel is my favorite action actor.
As far as a TV series, my favorite by far is
Carnivale, mainly because I do not have a clue what is going on
with it. The series is about the battle between good and evil and
unfolds under the guise of a traveling circus in the 1930s. The plot has
not been revealed to the audience; or maybe I don’t get it yet. Every
episode I watch simply raises more questions without answering them.

I am currently learning to play the
tampura, an Indian drone instrument. In India, classical music is
generally played with a
sarod or a
sitar as the primary instrument, and the music flows around a drone
note. This is the music with that “Eastern” feel. Although I am learning to
play the tanpura, in my home state of Montana, it will be some time before
Indian classical music is routinely played. |

Of course I have to mention my own company’s website,
BioScience
Laboratories. What can I say? It’s truly a labor of love.
I subscribe to two military newsletters:
Leatherneck and
Marine
Corps Gazette. Both are available at the
Marines Corps
Association Web site.
I also frequent
Ken Wilber’s website, a multimedia, interactive forum that deals
with integral awareness in all its artistic, social, cultural, and political
forms. As he puts it on the site, “It’s the expression of body, mind, and
spirit in self, culture, and nature.” |
