KEVIN’S TRANSFORMING MEDIA PICKS | | |

On a number of occasions I’ve been asked for
either book recommendations or to list books that have deeply impacted
my life. First of all, I’d have to list the “classic” Edgar Cayce
biography,
There is a River, by Thomas Sugrue, who wrote it while Cayce
was still alive. This book, especially the “Philosophy” chapter had a
major impact upon my life’s direction.
In terms of novels that have deeply affected me, I am hard-pressed to
list only a few but I think those few would include
The Remnant, by Mary LaCroix, which provides an amazing
glimpse into the life of the Essenes at the time of Jesus.
Initiation, by Elisabeth Haich is a wonderful look at
ancient Egypt. Robert Heinlein, author of the cult classic,
Stranger in a Strange Land, is always interesting reading
and I enjoy his time-travel science fiction novels.
I also need to mention another important work.
Why Jesus Taught Reincarnation: A Better News Gospel, by
Herbert Puryear offers a fascinating glimpse into the biblical teachings
of Jesus to prove reincarnation. |

After books, I just love the movies – all
kinds of movies. In fact, there have been times when I have toyed with
the idea of writing movie reviews. Certainly, the
Lord of the Rings trilogy kept my attention for three years.
I must admit, I was also caught up in the emotion of
Titanic. I think
Independence Day is a good story no matter how many times I’ve
seen it, and I can’t way for the third installment of
Shrek.
Speaking of kid’s movies, two more that remain memorable are Disney’s
The Kid, and
Tuck Everlasting. |

|
| |
Well, I guess you could sum up my musical taste
in two words: Easy Listening. Give me
Karen Carpenter,
Barry Manilow,
Whitney Houston and
Kenny Loggins any day of the week.
I also enjoy much of
Elton John and
Celine Dion.

I think one of my favorite websites (for its
wide range of materials) is the website of the
Edgar Cayce
organization. I’m also a frequent visitor to
JibJab.com, to see
what new and innovative clip they come up with next. I love the online
version of the
Jewish
Encyclopedia for interesting history and Bible lore, and the
Disney site. |
