Digital Object Identifier: A Super URL for the
Digital Age |

Paraview is proud to present another innovative tool
for offering our books on the Internet and supporting our authors’
works: the
Digital Object Identifier or DOI. This is a system for identifying
and exchanging intellectual property of all kinds (physical books as
well as eBooks) via the Internet. It is like the UPC (bar code) in the
physical world, but on the Internet it functions as a kind of
“super-URL,” linking users directly to where they can buy the book, see
additional information about it, find other books by the same author or
on the same subject, access related services, etc. It also facilitates
online transactions of all kinds, including e-commerce, rights
management, and digital distribution.
Paraview has chosen to use DOIs as this system offers great benefits to
our authors, readers, and others interested in our books: |

- The use of DOIs will raise the profile of Paraview books in web
search engines;
- It will benefit the people who originate these books, the Paraview
authors, as DOIs will increase traffic to their books, to the relevant
e-commerce sites, and to their own websites;
- It will allow readers to find exactly what they want while
browsing the Web;
- The DOI system will strengthen Paraview’s mission to connect
authors and their messages with wider audiences online and offline.
