ABOUT THE CO-AUTHORS
Terence
Cranendonk, MA, CPDT, CDBC earned his B.A. in Theater Studies at Yale
University and his M.A. in Theatre Arts at the University of Akron. After
fifteen years in the professional theatre, Terry made a career change, applying
his knowledge of the relation between body, emotion and behavior to his work
with dogs.
In 2000, Terence apprenticed as a dog trainer under Paul Owens, author of The
Dog Whisperer, eventually becoming an instructor with Paul's organization
Raise With Praise, Inc. in Burbank, California. Since that time he has studied
with some of the world’s foremost trainers and behaviorists, including Pam Reid,
Ian Dunbar, Raymond Coppinger, Karen Overall, Lore Haug, Jean Donaldson, Emily
Weiss, Brenda Aloff, Turid Rugaas, and Sue Sternberg in numerous workshops and
seminars. Terence is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) and a Certified
Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) and a member of the Association of Pet Dog
Trainers (APDT) and the International Association of Animal Behavior
Consultants.
Recently, Terence presented a paper, “The Application of Psychoanalytic
Principles to Dog Behavior Consulting,” at the Second Annual Conference of the
IAABC. Terence has his own consulting practice, DoGooDog Training, through which
he conducts private in-home sessions in the Greater Akron area.
Norma Eckroate is also the co-author of The Dog
Whisperer, The New Natural Cat, Switched-On LIving and
other books. She has also produced the DVD’s, The Dog Whisperer: Beginning and Intermediate Dog Training and The Dog
Whisperer Vol 2: Solving Common Behavior Problems. Norma lives in Los
Angeles with two of the smartest, most beautiful cats in the world, Charise and
Sweet William

PAUL OWENS is a nationally recognized as a leading proponent of
nonviolent dog training. He began training dogs in 1972 and has earned awards in
competitive obedience and participates in agility and waterworks. He is a
certified evaluator for the Delta Society's Animal Assisted Therapy Program, is
endorsed by The National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors (NADOI), and
was certified by the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). He is the director
of the nonprofit, educational organization, Raise with Praise, Inc., that offers
after-school violence prevention programs linking shelter dogs with elementary
school children. Paul has studied, practiced, and taught yoga and stress
management in the United States and India for more than 30 years. For over three
decades, he has been a consultant for thousands of families and individuals
working to improve the dog-human relationship by nonviolent means. Paul lives in
Los Angeles with his three dogs Molly, Grady and Buddy.
